Role Purpose

 

The Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials or equipment in compliance with operational procedures and safety standards. The role ensures smooth workflow, prevents accidents, and supports production or construction operations efficiently.


Key Responsibilities

1. Crane Operation

 

  • Operate overhead, mobile, or tower cranes to lift and move materials as per work instructions.

  • Position loads accurately in designated locations for production, construction, or storage.

  • Monitor crane controls, gauges, and indicators to ensure safe operation.

2. Safety & Compliance

 

  • Follow safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and lockout/tagout (LOTO) rules.

  • Inspect cranes and lifting equipment before use to ensure proper functioning.

  • Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.

3. Maintenance & Inspection

 

  • Conduct routine inspections of crane components (hooks, cables, brakes, motors, hydraulics).

  • Report any mechanical faults or issues to the maintenance team for timely repair.

  • Keep records of inspections, maintenance, and operational logs.

4. Coordination & Communication

 

  • Coordinate with riggers, signalers, and ground staff to ensure smooth lifting operations.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding load requirements, challenges, or delays.

  • Assist in organizing the work area to maintain safety and efficiency.

5. Continuous Improvement

 

  • Suggest improvements in handling techniques, lifting operations, or safety practices.

  • Maintain focus on reducing downtime and minimizing material damage.

  • Strong knowledge of crane operation procedures and safety practices.

  • Hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to read load charts, gauges, and basic mechanical drawings.

  • Teamwork, communication, and alertness for safety compliance.
