The Second Class Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and basic maintenance of steam boilers and related equipment in compliance with safety rules, plant procedures, and statutory boiler regulations (like Indian Boiler Regulations where applicable).
Start up and shut down boilers following standard operating procedures.
Monitor steam pressure, temperature, fuel feed and water levels to ensure safe and efficient boiler performance.
Adjust controls (fuel, water, air) to maintain required steam generation.
Conduct regular rounds of the boiler house to watch for any abnormal conditions.
Maintain accurate logbooks of operational data, including readings from gauges and meters.
Report any deviations, faults, breakdowns, or safety issues to senior personnel.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment (valves, pumps, safety devices).
Assist in boiler inspections, cleaning, and preparation for official inspections (IBR inspections).
Participate in scheduled shutdowns and overhauls when required.
Ensure boiler operations comply with safety protocols and statutory regulations including Indian Boiler Rules / Boiler Attendants Rules.
Use proper PPE and follow plant safety / emergency procedures.
Assist in safety drills and maintain good housekeeping in boiler areas.
