**Job Description: Transport Manager (Plant Operations)**
**Position Overview**
The Transport Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all transportation activities within the plant to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of raw materials, finished goods, and internal logistics. The role involves coordinating with production, warehouse, procurement, and external transport partners while ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and legal regulations.
**Key Responsibilities**
**1. Transport Planning & Coordination**
* Develop and implement daily/weekly transportation schedules for inbound and outbound materials.
* Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to understand transport requirements and align dispatch plans.
* Optimize vehicle routing to minimize delays and reduce operational costs.
**2. Fleet & Vendor Management**
* Manage in-house fleet (if applicable), including vehicle allocation, performance monitoring, and upkeep.
* Liaise with external transport contractors to ensure vehicle availability and quality service.
* Evaluate and negotiate contracts with transport service providers.
**3. Compliance & Safety**
* Ensure all transport operations comply with local transport laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
* Maintain documentation such as permits, licenses, vehicle inspection records, and driver credentials.
* Conduct periodic safety audits and ensure drivers adhere to safe driving practices.
**4. Dispatch & Documentation**
* Oversee loading and unloading activities to ensure accuracy, safety, and timely dispatch.
* Verify trip sheets, delivery challans, weighbridge slips, and shipment documentation.
* Track shipments through GPS or transport software and resolve delays or issues proactively.
**5. Cost Control & Budgeting**
* Monitor transportation expenses and fuel consumption.
* Implement cost-saving initiatives such as route optimization and load consolidation.
* Prepare transport expense reports and support annual budgeting processes.
**Education**
* Bachelor s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
* Additional certifications in logistics or transport management (preferred).
**Experience**
* 5 10 years of experience in transport/logistics operations, preferably in a manufacturing plant or industrial setup.
* Experience managing fleets and third-party transport vendors.
**Technical Skills**
* Knowledge of transport regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
* Proficiency with TMS (Transport Management Systems), GPS tracking, MS Office.
* Understanding of vehicle maintenance and logistics cost analysis.
**Soft Skills**
* Strong leadership and communication abilities.
* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
