Shift In-Charge Power Plant

Job Purpose:

To oversee the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the power plant during a particular shift, ensuring uninterrupted power generation, compliance with safety standards, and timely reporting to management.

Key Responsibilities:

Shift Operations & Supervision:

• Supervise and coordinate all plant operations during the shift

• Ensure proper startup, shutdown, and load management of boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliaries

• Monitor DCS / SCADA systems, plant parameters, and alarms

• Allocate tasks and supervise operators, technicians, and other shift staff

Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure strict adherence to plant safety procedures, statutory regulations, and environmental norms

• Conduct pre-shift briefings, safety checks, and risk assessments

• Respond to emergencies, abnormal situations, and alarms promptly

• Enforce permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, and other safety protocols

Performance & Efficiency Monitoring:

• Monitor plant performance, efficiency, and energy consumption during the shift

• Identify operational issues, suggest improvements, and implement corrective actions

• Track KPIs like availability, reliability, heat rate, and auxiliary consumption

Maintenance Coordination:

• Coordinate preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance with the maintenance team

• Ensure smooth execution of planned shutdowns and overhauls

• Support root cause analysis for equipment failures during the shift

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate shift logs, operation records, and incident reports

• Prepare shift reports and communicate key points to the next shift and management

• Document safety incidents, deviations, and corrective actions
