Role Purpose

The Shift In-Charge is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities during a specific shift to ensure safe, smooth, and efficient plant or production operations. The role ensures targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety and compliance protocols are followed.


Key Responsibilities

1. Shift Operations & Production

  • Oversee production, operations, or process activities during the shift.

  • Ensure production targets, quality standards, and operational schedules are met.

  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with maintenance teams for timely intervention.

2. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures, statutory regulations, and company SOPs.

  • Conduct shift-wise safety inspections and brief teams on hazards or changes in procedures.

  • Report any incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.

3. Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise operators, technicians, and other shift staff.

  • Allocate tasks and monitor performance to ensure efficiency and discipline.

  • Provide on-the-job guidance, training, and support to team members.

4. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain shift logs, production records, and maintenance reports.

  • Report shift performance, incidents, and any operational deviations to the supervisor or manager.

  • Ensure proper documentation for audits, inspections, and management review.

5. Coordination & Problem Solving

  • Coordinate with other shifts, departments, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth handovers.

  • Troubleshoot minor operational issues and escalate major problems promptly.

  • Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or relevant discipline) preferred

  • Production or process management certifications advantageous


Experience

  • 3 7 years in industrial operations, production, or plant environment.

  • Experience in supervisory or shift handling roles is preferred.
