The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment and machinery in industrial plants. The role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, minimizing downtime and supporting production goals.
Assemble, install, and align mechanical components, machines, and systems.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
Ensure accurate assembly and alignment of rotating and stationary machinery.
Conduct preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Inspect machinery for wear and tear, lubrication needs, and operational faults.
Repair or replace defective parts, bearings, shafts, pumps, and other components.
Diagnose mechanical faults using tools, gauges, and inspection techniques.
Suggest improvements to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Coordinate with engineers and supervisors for major repairs or modifications.
Follow plant safety rules, lockout tagout (LOTO) procedures, and SOPs.
Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with statutory and company safety regulations.
Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents promptly.
Maintain maintenance logs, work reports, and inspection records.
Report completed tasks, material usage, and pending repairs to supervisors.
Assist in audits, inspections, and compliance documentation as required.
Coordinate with other fitters, operators, and maintenance staff to ensure smooth plant operation.
Assist in mentoring apprentices or junior staff.
Support operational teams to minimize production interruptions.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating machinery, pumps, compressors, and conveyors.
Proficiency in fitting, alignment, and assembly of mechanical components.
